Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman has said that corruption in Ukraine "is not lesser evil than Russian tanks."

"It is a threat to Ukraine and we do our best to combat it," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said at the meeting with the members of the Riksdag group for cooperation with Ukraine.

At that he noted that the Verkhovna Rada was completing the elaboration of the legal framework to effectively fight corruption in Ukraine. "Thanks to the legislative support to the fight against corruption, opportunities to control the revenues of the officials, their property were expanded," Groysman said.

The Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament also informed that the Verkhovna Rada had adopted the laws on the establishment of the National Anticorruption Bureau, approved the procedure of selection of detectives, established the State Bureau of Investigation, started the renewal of the National Police. Groysman added that Ukraine had also launched the judicial reform. In particular, he said that respective draft amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine had been appreciated by the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission).

At the meeting, Groysman called on the Swedish colleagues to support Ukraine on its way to liberalization of the visa regime with the European Union countries. He said recently, the Ukrainian Parliament approved the amendments to the Labor Code of Ukraine that imposed ban on any discrimination.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada also expressed hope that the parliamentary groups would facilitate the deepening of Ukrainian-Swedish cooperation both at the interparliamentary and international levels.
